Archive - mountain dulcimer tablature arrangement in the 1-3-5 tuning - You're A Grand Old Flag
You're
A Grand Old Flag
(1906))
Composed by George M. Cohan
Arranged by John Sackenheim
George Cohan had a colorful career as a
singer, dancer, director, composer and producer of
vaudeville shows and music. He was openly patriotic,
claiming to have been born on the fourth of July. Two of
his best-known compositions were You’re A Grand Old
Flag and Yankee Doodle Boy. The latter title
was chosen for a movie of his life, starring James
Cagney. We’ve chosen You’re A Grand Old Flag as
an appropriate selection for the coming Fourth of July
holiday.
John
Sackenheim arranged this song in the key of G, using the
D-F#-A tuning! Other keys possible with this tuning are
D, A, and Bm, all without a capo. Notice that the music
is written in 2/4 time signature, to be played as
a lively march. The music included here is for the
chorus of the song.
